How do I clean my wooden floor?

Last updated on March 5, 2026

Wooden floors give your home warmth, character, and a natural look. In return, they require a little attention in everyday life. The wooden floors in our properties can vary in terms of wood type, surface treatment, and appearance—which is why this guide is general and applies to all types of wooden floors.

Please note: Special rules may apply to the property you live in. Always check your property's specific resident folder before using various cleaning products and/or household appliances. You can find it here.

How to clean your wood floor:

Daily cleaning

  • Vacuum the floor regularly with a nozzle designed for hard floors.
  • Alternatively, you can use a dry or slightly damp microfiber mop.
  • Remove gravel and dirt quickly – it acts like sandpaper on the surface

When washing the floor

  • Use a wrung-out cloth or a very slightly damp mop – the floor must never be soaking wet.
  • Use a cleaning product that is suitable for wooden floors (and use sparingly).
  • Wash in the direction of the wood grain, if possible
  • Wipe up excess water immediately

Avoid

  • Large quantities of water
  • All-purpose soap, brown soap, or harsh chemicals
  • Steam cleaner (can cause permanent damage)
