Take the senior college home with you

When Jan moved into the Bodilhaven housing community, it was with the many good folk high school stays he has experienced over the years in mind. Here, the inspiring community and the many social activities of folk high school life can become a regular part of everyday life, if you so wish.

Jan is 68 years old and has always been an avid high school student. When he has been able to, he has gone several times a year to sing, hike or travel with others. An interest that has played a big part in his decision to move into the Agora gardens.

"Many of the retirees I meet at the folk high schools live for it. They are active, social and outgoing. But when I ask them what they do between our folk high school meetings, there's not much to tell. The time between stays is waiting time. Imagine instead being able to live in a place where you just have to open the door, and then the community and all the good experiences are right outside".

Senior colleges create lifelong learning

Folk high schools are an entirely Danish concept - grown out of Christen Kold's and Grundtvig's thoughts on popular education. We often associate folk high schools with a kind of stopover for young people, where they develop socially and personally before moving on to their future education. But in fact, folk high schools for seniors in Denmark are becoming more and more popular. Learning is not just for young people. As humans, it's good for us to keep going, develop and be inspired, whether we're 22, 42 or 72. And good communities can create professional and social value for everyone, regardless of age. Being part of a social community increases the quality and understanding of life. Especially when you're older, your children have left home and your working life is perhaps less important than before. It often becomes even more important to meet new people, form new relationships and learn new things.

Get the benefits of senior college - right on your doorstep

As at the senior college, lifelong learning and social communities are also important values at Agora Gardens. Here, learning and inspiration are a natural part of everyday life. You can pursue your interests and discover new ones - in good company. There are plenty of opportunities to meet like-minded people who share your interests. And you're likely to inspire - and be inspired by - your new neighbors. The Agora gardens are developed and designed with a special focus on neighborliness and close relationships - with space and inspiration to meet for activities. Here, you are guaranteed to experience an everyday life filled with experiences and togetherness; both planned and spontaneous.

In Agora Gardens, you get all the benefits of a folk high school stay; just outside your front door. Here you don't have to limit your "folk high school life" to a short stay and then look forward to the next stay. Instead, you can integrate college life as a regular part of your daily life. Just like at the senior folk high school, you have the opportunity to gain new horizons, new knowledge and new friendships. And if you've had enough of community and shared activities for a while, in the Agora gardens you always have the option of retreating to your own home, so there's never more socializing than you want to do. You choose when and how much you want to take part in the community. You can always choose to be alone, but you never have to be lonely.

Eat, sing and be merry in the Agora Gardens senior communities

Agora Gardens' residential communities offer a wealth of opportunities for exciting activities that make you smarter, healthier and happier in everyday life. The activities are many and varied, and you're sure to find an activity that suits you. Become part of the hiking guild, which goes on trips to both near and far, join the joint trips abroad, which single seniors, among others, really enjoy, and explore new flavors or practice traditional cooking skills in the cooking club, where socializing around meals becomes an important part of everyday life.

Last but not least, all residents of Agora Gardens receive a folk high school songbook when they move into the community. It forms the basis for many good song evenings and cozy moments among the residents. Jan dreams of starting his own singing association with his neighbors in Bodilhaven. And in the future, he no longer needs to go to a senior college to satisfy his desire for community and socializing. All he has to do is open his front door and the senior college is right on his doorstep.
